The Story of Dave and Michele Schanker:
Dave and Michele met in 2001 while living in Melbourne, Florida. They met through a friend who invited Michele to a party/happy hour. After a few years of dating Dave decided to ask Michele to marry him. She of course said yes.
Prior to the wedding date Michele was offered a job at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics in California. Being offered a job at the ever famous "Skunk Works" and the desire to leave Florida pretty much made the decision to move pretty easy. There was hardly any discussion. The decision seemed like a no brainer. Michele was oh so tired of the heat, humidity, bugs, and flat land in Florida. So they left everything they knew in Florida to establish a new home in California. Michele spent three long months away from Dave (she moved to Cali ahead of Dave) which turned out to be harder than expected. In October of 2004 Dave and Michele were happily married in Michele's home state of Maryland. They then headed to Hawaii on their wonderful and adventurous honeymoon. Where they spent there days snorkeling, mountain biking, swimming, snuba diving, and swimming with sharks. After the honeymoon Dave returned to Cali with Michele and their life as a married couple began with a clean slate. They moved into their brand new house in the city of Lancaster.
Living in California has been an amazing experience for Dave and Michele. They truly to do love it and wouldn't change it for anything. California has so many interesting opportunities. One of the things Michele really felt was lacking in FL was the variety of activities. Cali has so much from the wine tasting, to hiking the sierras, to the fantastic skiing, to exploring the cute coastal towns. They frequent places like Sequoia NP and Yosemite NP for the scenery and hiking. They also love the major cities and the close location to Las Vegas. They have become big fans of hiking the sierras, which are a truly amazing sight. The sierras are full of granite mountains where you can easily hike above the tree line to amazingly clear alpine lakes. They have even come to enjoy some extremely strenuous hikes, including the one to Half Dome.
Their love for traveling has grown since moving and exploring Cali. They travel a lot throughout the state and other places as well. In 2006 they spent 2 weeks exploring Italy and skiing in Switzerland. They have a plan to return to Europe in 2007 and also to enjoy the many adventures of Costa Rica.
Since moving to California and investing in a Canon digital SLR camera, Michele has become very interested in Photography. She continues to shoot and learn as she goes. Although she has started to take some classes and is starting to learn a lot of the technical aspects. Michele has always loved photography, ever since he was a little girl. But now she is really doing something with her hobby and hopes to one day allow it to be more than a hobby. She would love to be able to photograph children and families and maybe get into some event photography as well. Watch her photography improve on this website, as she seems to get better the more she shoots.
Michele is also an avid runner although she consistently battles shin splint pain. She has completed a half marathon in 1:47 and continues to improve her 5K and 10K times with her best 5K standing at 23:12. She also plans to start training for bike races and duatholons. Dave enjoys cheering her on and taking photos while she crosses the finish line. Although Dave is not a runner, he does run his own races from time to time. For the last 2 years he has ran in the Santa Anita Derby 5K and also tried the Nike Run Hit Wonder in downtown LA.
